Produced through Emerson College's "Advanced Studio Television Production" class. Combines aspects of similar television reality shows, such as "Survivor" and "Big Brother," but pits players against one another in the camp game known as "Werewolf" or "Mafia."
Who's Afraid started after a yearly crew tradition of playing the party game Mafia during Emerson Channel's Orientation Series, Emerson College's television shows for the incoming Freshman to learn all about Boston. Martha Connolly pitched the idea to our Advanced Studio Television class, and the class selected her project to be produced! With a budget twice that of previous projects in the class, Martha and I spent a lot of time working with our production designers to incorporate a town square with a "Salem" vibe to it. The only thing to top it off would be a fog machine. The use of fog in the studios is not usually allowed but, hey, I guess you can get anything with money. It was a fun adventure into the world of working with the Boston Fire Department and getting permits with hours to spare before production (on that note, if anyone has the money to make a reality show about the BFD Fire Prevention Unit, we have a promise that we need to fulfill to them...)
